Infrastructure Engineer

Remote, USA

Opal is building the next generation of access management. As engineers, we've all felt the pain of getting the access we need to do our jobs, whether it's for a piece of infrastructure, a newly deployed service, or a design doc. At Opal, we’re building a central hub for authorization to simplify this spaghetti mess and make best-practice access management automated, intelligent, and easy to use.

We’re tackling a difficult product and engineering challenge. Every system has its own philosophy for access control, which makes orchestrating them with a consistent set of policies challenging. We need talented engineers who can navigate this technically complex space and help us design and build the right abstractions to solve such a universal problem.

Your responsibilities

  • You will make contributions to all parts of our tech stack, which comprises Kubernetes, Golang, Postgres, Redis, GraphQL, TypeScript, and React
  • You will work closely with leadership, our product team, and other engineers in roadmapping, architecture, and product discussions
  • You won’t burn out — we’re building a great product while creating a fun, family-friendly, and remote-friendly culture

Our ideal candidate

  • Can take a broad mandate and design/build a system end-to-end to implement it
  • Can work full stack, is comfortable with frontend and backend work
  • Has 3+ years experience as a full-time software developer or equivalent experience
  • Thrives in ambiguous environments with significant ownership and with the opportunity to make decisions that have a huge impact on the business

Our benefits

  • Hybrid work: we have offices in SF and NY but fully support remote hires
  • Early employee equity
  • Biannual retreat: we meet somewhere around the world twice a year, all expenses paid
  • Unlimited PTO + 10 company holidays
  • Health, vision, and dental insurance
  • Weekly meal plan for coffee and lunch
  • Travel reimbursement
  • 401k plan
